As a child I would constantly find myself bruised knee, fruit stained tees and hands deep in dirt.
Perhaps it was that the literal translation of my surname is 'pottery maker'
but
I have always craved to be creative.
There was something that always lead me to nature.
To myself.
My hands, these amazing instruments had a constant need to be used.
I had to believe there are traits we have embedded into us from birth
that never leave.
I had to believe we were made for more than we can ever begin to know.
Leaf fountain / bird bath
I took half of a dried calabash shell and moulded the inside with clay and lay it in the sun to dry.
I wandered around the garden looking for leaves.
Different in their own unique way.
I picked up the ones that spoke to me.
Shaped, printed, adjusted to suit my liking.
The construction was simple enough.
Building the inside for support and on the outside for the highest leaf.
After a week, I bisqued my piece & put it in the kiln to fire.
The underneath was left plain for a natural look.
** The following week, I painted the underneath in a natural stone colour and placed it on my Plant Shelf.
